The Landing School of Boatbuilding provides a gateway to the maritime industry for students seeking career opportunities as designers, builders, systems technicians or repairers of both recreational and commercial watercraft. The goal of the school is to produce practical boatbuilders, designers and systems technicians who can work competently on the types of vessels in use today and who can adapt to the industry's evolving technology, while still appreciating the traditions of the past.

The Landing School of Boatbuilding serves the maritime industry by providing skilled employees who are well equipped to meet its job requirements. Accordingly, the Landing School receives substantial support and direction from the boatbuilding industry in curriculum design and program implementation. Industry leaders regularly lecture at the school and make themselves available to evaluate student work.

Although the Landing School's courses primarily attract adults who seek a career in the maritime industry, individuals who are retired or taking time from formal academics find equal value in time spent at the Landing School.
