Maine Maritime Academy is a four-year, residential, coeducational college offering undergraduate and graduate education relating to maritime and engineering careers. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree have a choice of nine majors: Marine Biology, Marine Science, Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering Operations, Marine Engineering Technology, Marine Systems Engineering, Power Engineering Technology, Small Vessel Operations, and International Business and Logistics. Students may qualify for an officer's license in the U.S. Merchant Marine and for a commission in the U.S. Navy or Coast Guard. Other program strengths include trans-Atlantic and Caribbean training cruises, nine academic minor courses of study, multiple career options, an unsurpassed placement record, and a wide range of intercollegiate athletics and social activities.
A two-year program in Small Vessel Operations leads to an Associate in Science degree and 200-ton USCG license.
Maine Maritime Academy is located in historic Castine at the head of Penobscot Bay, about 40 miles south of Bangor. Its coastal setting, small classes, and modern facilities provide and ideal learning environment.
The Ocean Institute offers advanced programs for management personnel and seagoing officers in the maritime industry.
Human resources, maritime corporate strategy, research methods, organizational theory and structure, marketing, and political environment of commercial shipping contribute to the Academy's graduate school program, which leads to a Master of Science in Maritime Management, Logistics Management, Defense Logistics, and Supply Chain Management.
