Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) is one of the most affordable and high quality post-secondary institutions in Maine. Not only is the cost of education very reasonable, but 79 percent of students receive financial aid. NMCC provides opportunities for students entering straight out of high school, individuals who want to advance in their present career and students who want to get a start toward a four-year degree. Over 90 percent of NMCC alumni are employed within six months of graduation or go on to pursue further education.
The College offers over 25 programs of study within four major areas: Business Technology, Nursing and Allied Health, Trade and Technical Occupations, and the Arts and Sciences. The latter of which includes the popular Liberal Studies Associate Degree Program, guaranteeing a student advanced (junior) standing at any University of Maine System Campus.
All NMCC programs involve hands-on experience in a small class environment. Students learn the valuable skills needed to succeed out in the workforce in the classroom. Lessons taught by instructors are brought to life with real hands-on opportunities both on and off campus. Outside the classroom, the College provides a wide variety of campus activities, athletics and housing options, and students enjoy many activities in the surrounding region.
The College is located in Presque Isle, the largest community in Aroostook County, in the heart of Maine's four-season outdoor recreation destination. Visitors come to "The County" each year to enjoy snowmobiling, skiing, hunting, fishing, canoeing, and the many other activities which our students have the opportunity to enjoy.
Through the work of various campus and community-based programs, NMCC is recognized for its work in helping students transition to the college with advanced academic standing. Students are encouraged to explore career and program offerings non-traditional to their gender. Additional support services are available on the College campus through the Women, Work and Community Program.
NMCC offers a wide range of programs through the College's Business and Industry and Continuing Education Division. Programs and courses are available with both credit and non-credit options. Specialized training programs are also provided for area businesses.
External degree classes are offered at four different locations throughout Aroostook County in cooperation with area Adult Education Centers, which enable many area citizens to pursue higher education conveniently located closer to home.
