The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) provides access for students who, regardless of age, family or employment commitments, desire a college education. The University College of Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn College are affiliated with UMA.

The University of Maine at Augusta gives students the opportunity to study in Augusta, Bangor, and Lewiston/Auburn, and at University College centers as well as at interactive television sites throughout Maine. The Augusta campus offers associate degree programs in: Architectural Studies, Art, Business, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice, Dental Hygiene, Financial Services, Graphic Arts, Human Services, Jazz and Contemporary Music, Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies, Library and Information Services, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Photography, Public Administration and Social Services. Baccalaureate degree programs are offered in: Administration of Justice, Architectural Studies, Art, Biology, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Dental Hygiene, English, Financial Services, Interdisciplinary Studies, Jazz and Contemporary Music, Library and Information Services, Mental Health and Human Services, Public Administration, and Social Science. Several of these programs are also offered at a distance.

University College of Bangor Campus

The University College of Bangor offers responsible access to a wide variety of educational opportunities. The College offers associate degrees in the liberal arts and career programs; provides academic assessment and support services; and provides Maine citizens and others with and opportunity for continuing their education in part-time evening programs and summer sessions.

UCB offers access both to student populations and Maine's business, industry, and public agency constituencies. Academic degree programs include Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Dental Hygiene, Financial Services, Human Services, Landscape Horticulture, Legal Technoloy, Liberal Studies, Library & Information Services and Veterinary Technology, also a certificate in Dental Assisting.

Baccalaureate degree programs are offered in: Administration of Justice, Computer Information Systems, Dental Hygiene, Financial Services, Library & Information Services, and Mental Health & Human Services.

Academic Assessment and Support Services are provided by the Developmental Studies Program, the Cornerstone Program, counseling, tutoring, and writing and mathematics laboratories.

Lewiston-Auburn College

Through a joint effort of the University of Maine at Augusta and the University of Southern Maine, Lewiston-Auburn College provides central Maine communities with a variety of educational opportunities. Serving approximately 1500 students each semester, LAC offers courses applicable to associate and baccalaureate degrees, a number of special non-credit courses, and developmental reading, writing, mathematics and computer courses leading to college level skills.

Located in a spacious facility at 51 Westminster Street, Lewiston, Maine, Lewiston-Auburn College is well equipped to meet the needs of a variety of studrents by offering day and evening classes, support services such as academic counseling, assistance to veterans, tutoring, English and Mathematics learning lab, and other special services for those who need it. The College provides the friendliness of a small college while at the same time has the benefits of a major university, including a bookstore, state-of-the-art computer lab, art gallery, and a café.

The majority of students at UMA are adults who are returning to school for job advancement, skills improvement or personal enrichment. A full range of support services is available to adult learners. Placement testing allows academic advisors to assist students in choosing appropriate courses.

Developmental coursework and tutoring are available to students who need to improve their skills in the areas of reading, writing and math. Workshops are frequently offered for adults who which to improve their study skills and test taking abilities.

Career counseling and personal enrichment courses are also available. Training and support services for adult women considering returning to school after years as homemakers are available through the Women, Work and Community program.
