Students are attracted to UMPI for a number of reasons, the most important being the variety of academic programs and the personalized attention that is given by faculty and staff. Other reasons for choosing UMPI are the location, facilities, campus activities, and athletics.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle offers academic programs and services at its Houlton Center, which serves locations in southern and central Aroostook County.
